Mentors Inspiring Boys & Girls (MIB&G) is an artistic and character development program for young people ages 8 – 18. Students study theater arts, voice, creative writing, spoken word, dance, boxing and studio music engineering. MIB&G provides an alternative to idle time, working with youth to channel their energies into positive, constructive behavior and creative expression. We provide a safe, fun environment that nurtures youth into feeling comfortable in their own skin, while expressing their feelings, fears and aspirations. Through the development of their creative talents, youth also develop effective stress management and conflict resolution skills. They become better communicators, social skills are enhanced and collective thinking and efforts are learned.
MIB&G youth have been invited to perform at events throughout the community and won first place in the Miss Sweet Potato Pie Talent Competition. Our children have even gone to Albany to petition the state legislature for more funding for our schools.
The program currently runs Monday’s and Wednesday’s from 5:30-7:30pm at the Boys and Girls Club. On Tuesday’s and Thursday’s we are at the Garth Fagan dance studio, located at 50 Chestnut St, from 5:30-6:30pm. Friday’s we are back at the Boys and Girls Club from 4:00-6:15 pm. The program runs from September through June, giving the children a summer break to spend time away with family and friends.
